So, I have been putting off this review for a while, partly because I am a slowpoke, and partly because I am lazy.
Njiqahdda play a brand of black metal almost solely unique to them. Imagine, if you will, the technicality of Krallice, but with more sonic clarity, some atmospheric interludes and a hint of a psychedelic influence. It is a little difficult to describe or classify but most good music is.

This year has been a crazy one. Everything on a personal level has picked up, and frankly, been amazing. But nobody gives a fuck about that, so let’s cut to the chase. Even though I have not had the time to fuck with this site, I have kept up, neigh, stepped up my musical regimen. The year in music has been the best ever. I think I bought around 100 vinyl records/cassettes this year. Only attended two concerts, but both ruled hard. So without further ado, the list:

So, here is a lengthy list of my personal favorite albums/releases from 2012. These aren’t arranged in any specific order. I just wrote them down as I thought of them. I don’t really feel a need to go into detail about these albums, seeing as about half of them have already been reviewed or don’t really fall into the genres covered by this blog. If you have not had the chance to listen to any of these releases, I strongly encourage you to give them at

I won’t state how incredible this year was. I won’t state how extraordinarily good or how godawfully bad it was, there won’t be any rants or praises about or towards any scene and how it should or shouldn’t be. One simple reason for that; it’s just another year. Sometimes I wonder if we make lists just because everyone else does, but doing this, I realize it’s just a nice way of keeping score of what quality offerings there have been. So if you’d like to know what caught my attention, then enjoy…
First of all, I have some releases that

I hate these things. To be honest, I wasn’t even going to do one but I asked on Facebook and people seemed to want one. There were a ton of good releases this year and I didn’t listen to nearly enough of them. I, more or less, backtracked through catalogs of bands I like and played catch-up. I’m 100% certain I won’t remember half the excellent albums that came out this year while making this list and I’m sure I’ll read someone else’s list and think “god damn it” but fuck it.
Without further ramblings and in no particular

It’s been a long time folks. I can’t give one excuse or another that would make sense to any of you for my absence and I make no guarantees I’ll keep up with frequent posts from here on. For now, just enjoy what we’re working with.
Gnawed Gristle and Bone is the latest output from sick-as-fuck noise/drone connoisseurs, Venowl. Still not on board? Well, it was mastered by none other than Mories of Gnaw Their Tongues and nine thousand other bands, that

I don’t write reviews all that often. I have several reasons for that, the most important one being that mostly, the music is not worth writing about. If I don’t like a release, I generally will not feel like wasting my valuable time writing about how I don’t like to listen to it. A lot of reviewers only seem interested in writing bad reviews, forgetting their primary job in the first place: Finding and

Death Fortress is a one man black metal outfit from New Jersey that just released its first demo, Pulling Ancient Stone, on Fallen Empire and Mordgrimm late last month. Pulling Ancient Stone is comprised of two tracks of purely violent and abusive black metal. The first song, Eternal Enemies, is a low end heavy juggernaut that pummels the eardrums. The title track, Pulling Ancient Stone, is a slightly more droning song that features less emphasis on low end frequency and more on atmosphere and structure.

This may seem to be a bit of an unusual selection for this site to review, but I can honestly say that it’s not. Modern day experimental music and drone owes so much to what these guys did in the past, that it makes total sense that it should be reviewed here.
Now, having said that, let me tell you about The Seer. In a word, this record is perfect, in every possible way. It’s so rare that you run across an album that is so

…ugh.
Writing reviews has become more of a task than it is an enjoyable experience, and it seems that I am slowly becoming more and more displeased with the activity in recent weeks. I have been working more which results in less free time, and the free time I do have is spent taking part in things that don’t require too much introspective effort, largely in part due to how particular I am about what I publish. Whether it be my word choice sounding odd,
